RISKS THAT ARE RELATED TO THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TRAIL YOU ARE WALKING.
The Canarian footpaths are full of secrets for the senses. Good hiking practice recommends knowing what to look out for to keep yourself safe. Some of these aspects depend on the path itself, others on the place through which they run.
Your own risks depend on the characteristics of the path: types of soil, leaves and pine needles that can cause you to fall, unevenness, etc. Follow the advice recommended for your route. Here are some examples to help you identify them.
FALLS ON SAME LEVEL SURFACES
By the type of soil or its coverage: loose ground, stones, pine needles, etc. as well as by soft slopes or climate conditions that increase the chance of falling to the ground, pay attention.
FALLS ON DIFERENT LEVEL SURFACES
Pay special attention in sections of trail with steep slopes or a slant, where you can fall from height. Avoid reckless behaviour.
STRUCK BY OR AGAINST OBJECTS
There are sections in trail where you must be careful due to protruding items or falling objects. In these sections you have to increase attention.
GETTING HIT BY BICYCLES
There are some trails in Canary Islands that cross or are shared with bicycles tracks. In them, you must increase your attention to avoid accidents.
GETTING HIT BY VEHICLES
There are some trails in Canary Islands that cross or are shared with roads or tracks where vehicles travel. On those trails, you must increase your attention to avoid accidents.
ACROPHOBIA
Feelings of vertigo can be activated in places of great height in some paths, and that can be increased by landscape effects. If you suffer from vertigo avoid these sections.
